Neville John (1969 – 1976)

Neville John, B. Mus, was a cellist and instrumental teacher in schools in the Merthyr Tydfil area. His major concerts were in King Henry VIIIth School, and included several well known concerti with local soloists. He was also a composer, and the orchestra performed his Tragic Overture, Aberfan in 1970 and the tribute to its rejuvenation The Triumph of Aberfan in 1971 and 2000, and on the 50th anniversary of the disaster in 2016.
