New Leader Appointment

Abergavenny Symphony Orchestra wishes to appoint a new Leader for January 2022.

The orchestra is a true community orchestra with players of varying ages and experience, from Grade VI to professional, performing works from classical to the 21st century. We usually give 3 main concerts per year, also a Children’s Concert and a “come and play” workshop day, and we rehearse on Sunday evenings in Abergavenny, from 6.30 until 9.00 (typically around 30 rehearsals per year).

The orchestra has enjoyed a continuous increase in its playing standards over the last twenty years, allowing us to perform works by Brahms, Sibelius, Shostakovich and Mahler, amongst others.

We are looking to appoint a new leader who can help us to build further on the progress we have already made, and to work with our music director Michael Bell, MBE. This is an opportunity to lead an orchestra with talented, friendly and enthusiastic musicians, and an outstanding music director.

Obviously the last 18 months have been exceptionally challenging because of Covid. We are now enjoying playing again, and looking forward to returning to something more like normal in 2022.
In addition to the musical duties listed below, the Leader is entitled to membership of the management committee and is encouraged to contribute to all aspects of the ongoing development and running of the orchestra. The Leader also receives an honorarium, agreed by the membership.

If you are interested in the position, please contact the Secretary, Bethan Barlow: info@abergavennysymph.org.uk

Closing date for applications – 30th November 2021
