Abergavenny Symphony Orchestra’s 2026 workshop will take place on Sunday 22 February at Clarence Hall, in the beautiful town of Crickhowell.
Rachmaninov’s Symphony no. 2 is one of the great Romantic symphonies, packed with
glorious tunes and a musical gift for every section of the orchestra.
Conducted by Michael Bell MBE, this workshop presents a rare opportunity to explore this masterpiece. We look forward to welcoming you.
There will be 2 sessions: 10 – 1 and 2– 4 with a break during each session. We will finish the day with a play through. The play-through will be open to any friends and family who would like to listen.
Refreshments
We will be providing tea, coffee, squash and biscuits for the breaks, and we can also provide a buffet lunch as long as you order in advance when you book your place.
Taking Part
Bookings are now open. Please note the minimum recommended standard of grade 6 for strings and grade 8 for wind and brass.

Music will of course be provided on the day, but you can download some of it in advance from the International Music Score Library Project (IMSLP) website if you want to have a look beforehand. String players might want to look at the fiendish fugue in the second movement, which starts between 32 and 33! (22:48 in the Petrenko recording)
