Don Juan and Till Eulenspiegel
Abergavenny Symphony Orchestra’s 2025 workshop will take place on Sunday 6 April at Clarence Hall, in the beautiful town of Crickhowell.
This year’s repertoire consists of two of the greatest orchestral tone poems by Richard Strauss…Don Juan and Till Eulenspiegel.
Composed in 1888, when Strauss was just 24, Don Juan is one of Strauss’s most sumptuous and passionate works telling the adventures of the legendary lover Don Juan.
Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks (to give it’s full title) followed six years after Don Juan and tells of an actual historical character from the 14th century who had a reputation for practical jokes and roguish adventures. The music is high spirited and brilliantly orchestrated.
Conducted by Michael Bell MBE, this workshop presents a rare opportunity to explore these two Strauss masterpieces. We look forward to welcoming you.
There will be 2 sessions: 10 – 1 and 2– 5 with a break during each session. We will finish the day with a play through. The play-through will be open to any friends and family who would like to listen.
Refreshments
We will be providing tea, coffee, squash and biscuits for the breaks, and we can also provide a buffet lunch as long as you order in advance when you book your place.

Bookings are now open. Please note the minimum recommended standard of grade 6 for strings and grade 8 for wind and brass.
